CleanCaptions Privacy Policy
CleanCaptions runs entirely in your browser.
- No data collection. The extension collects no personal data, no
analytics, no telemetry, and no usage statistics. Nothing you watch, read,
or export ever leaves your machine because of this extension.
- No external servers. There is no CleanCaptions backend. Caption data is
fetched directly from YouTube using your normal browser session — the same
requests the YouTube player itself makes.
- One-time model download. On first use of AI enhancement, a punctuation
model (~67 MB) is downloaded from the Hugging Face CDN (
huggingface.co).
It is cached by your browser and reused offline. No information about you
or the videos you watch is sent with this request.
- Settings. Your preferences (on/off, font size, toggles) are stored via
Chrome’s
storage.sync, which may sync them across your own signed-in
Chrome profiles. They are never transmitted to the developer.
